Using his unusual technique of switching between 12 and 13 stride intervals between hurdles, Young bettered the world record of 47.02 set by Edwin Moses in 1983 despite slamming the final hurdle and raising his arms in triumph prior to reaching the finish.

His record still stands and he remains the only athlete to ever break the 47-second barrier. As a collegian, Young was nicked named “Spiderman” by his teammates at UCLA, where he won the 1987 and 1988 NCAA 400m hurdle crowns and his UCLA Bruins captured back to back national championships. A UCLA graduate, he is a proud native of Watts, California and remains active in the development and motivation of today’s youth. Among his numerous honors, Mr. Young highly cherishes being the winner of ESPN's first Eppsy Award given for Track and Field accomplishment.

In this pod, Young discusses his youth, conquering environmental obstacles, international competition, the '68 Olympics, and Olympic & Major League Baseball steroid usage including comments on Marion Jones, Roger Clemons and Barry Bonds.

www.KevinYoung4678.com

Pod Journalist: Theo Williams / Studio Engineer: Jack Wyles

<itunes:author>Theo Williams / Recording Arts and Sciences</itunes:author><itunes:subtitle>Culture360 Olympic pod featuring World Record holder & Olympic Gold Medalist Kevin Young</itunes:subtitle><itunes:summary /><itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit><itunes:block>no</itunes:block><itunes:duration>00:24:29</itunes:duration><itunes:keywords />

Cuture360: Virgin America Hits the Streets of San Francisco!

In this second installment of the Virgin America pod series we covered the Virgin America crew as they hit the streets of San Francisco for a valentine’s day promotion. Terri J. Vaughn sits down with 25 of Hollywood’s African-American
actresses to discuss how they deal with being in today’s entertainment
industry. While media floods unrealistic ideas to the
general public about these women, this documentary allows viewers a
candid, unscripted exposure into the minds and hearts of these
actresses. Ms. Vaughn sincerely removes these women from the characters
